AMD 2 "BILD"

I read a German tabloid, "BILD" that I grabbed at the airport on my way home from Berlin last Christmas. The "BILD - Berlin-Brandenburg" is the Mittwoch 5. Januar 2011 print. The paper covered a very broad range of topics vom Fußballspieleren zu erotische Ausstrahlung (sex appeal) zu Gift Nahrung (poisoned food) zu neue Stellen (new jobs).  The cover features a Dioxin-Skandal in which a company allowed chicken, pork, and egg products to be released to supermarkets with traces of Dioxin poison in them. There must have been reasonable state of panic in the area these goods were distributed to because no one was certain how much of the contaminated products still remained in stores available to the public for consumption.

Another large topic in the tabloid newspaper was Fußball. There were a countless number of articles relating to Germany's most prided sport.  The largest headlining Fußball news was the 35 Mio. (million dollar) trade of Edin Dzeko, who played for Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga, to England-Klub Manchester City.  Other articles included info on Berlin's Hertha BSC team and FC Bayern Müchen.

Also in the news was the 360,000 neue Stellen in Germany for 2011.  The job list included 150,000 jobs in Gesundheitswesen (health service), 100,000 in Zeitarbeit (basic hourly workers ich denke), 30,000 in der Logistikbranche, 25,000 im Handwerk (crafts), 20,000 in Einzelhandel (retail), 10,000 im Maschinenbau (engineering!), 8,000 in IT-Branche, 5000 in Hotels und Gaststätten (restaurants), Baubranche (construction), und Automo-bilwirtschaft (automotive industry), und 1000 in Chemie-Branche. Year end unemployment for the previous year was the lowest percentage in 19 Jahren (years)!

Another big story and concern was the increase in Auto vandalism and arson. Many of these acts are in a reaction to the London protesting. This is interesting because I know several cars (Mercededz, Porsche, Audi, and BMW), have been set on fire that are parked in Berlin very close to where meine freundins eltern park their car in Berlin. Today, I believe the problem has slowed down quite a bit.

There was also a story regarding Berlin's S-Bahns (city public transportation train).  Several are breaking, and many are under serious repairs.  Some students are not making it to school, and adults to work because the train issues and politics behind buying new trains.

Lastly, the paper contained articles regarding a XXX Playmate on a Deutsch Fear Factor / Survivor type of show covered in maggots, Lidl grocery ads, in-home fat-burning exercises, and of course, A whole back-page dedicated to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

Overall, it was very difficult to read and truly comprehend the material in the tabloid / Paper. Luckily, pictures and photos are a great tool to help me understand a situation or topic. It surprises me how much more open Germans, and Europeans in general, are to sex and nudity.  The one newspaper sported two large pictures of completely topless women in it, as if it was typical of every paper, which it may well be.
